Hartland Park Voted Best Overall Community by the Home Builders Association of Greater Chicago.

October 17, 2008

On October 3, 2008, the Home Builders Association of Greater Chicago (HBAGC) awarded the Hartland Park development the prestigious Gold Key award for Best Overall Community.
“Hartland Park successfully provides the residential comfort and cohesion that serve as the foundation for a strong community and it creates this powerful feeling in the Lincoln Park area,” explained award judge Tom Arndt, Division Manager at New Urban Communities. “I loved the streetscapes and the way that the buildings set back from the streets and the architecture of the entire development—unified, but not monotonous.”

Hartland Park includes 80 townhomes, 29 single-family homes and a half-acre park at the intersection of West Schubert Avenue and Hermitage Avenue in Lincoln Park. The homes are designed to reflect the historic residential architecture of Chicago, constructed predominantly in red brick with well-articulated front entrances, a mixture of flat and pitched roofs, and parapet walls outlining private rooftop balconies. The homes range from approximately 2,600 square feet to over 5,000 square feet in floor plans that provide 3, 4, or 5 bedroom layouts.

This award-winning development is an 8-acre infill site that was thoughtfully designed to complement its surroundings in both design and functionality. New streets, sidewalks and parkways match neighboring roadways and structures on all sides so that the new community is aesthetically contiguous with the existing fabric of housing in the area.
“It really felt like a neighborhood in the heart of Chicago. People were out walking around. Kids were playing and laughing in the park. It just worked and even though the houses, the streets and the park are all new, they create this sense of an established and thriving community,” described Arndt.

The HBAGC is a trade association that represents over 1,000 members of the residential development and construction industry in the Greater Chicago area. Association members include home builders, design and remodeling professionals, mortgage lenders, and building product manufacturers. The Key Awards are annual awards presented by the HBAGC that recognize excellence in housing design, architecture, interior merchandising, landscaping, and remodeling. Key award judges also select a Best Overall Community.

Communities are evaluated upon four different criteria: land design, exterior design, interior design and supporting sales materials. The quality of the land design is measured in terms of landscaping, monumentation, and the character of the community. Exterior design combines both curb appeal and the cohesion between the different community design elements. Judges evaluate the interior design by appraising the maintenance, merchandising and impact that the interior design makes upon the overall community lifestyle. Finally, the judges examine the literature, advertising and promotional activities as they relate to the overarching theme of the community.

This year, after all of the scores had been tabulated, the Hartland Park community was awarded the Gold Key Award for Best Overall Community.
Hartland Park community has been developed by Chicago developer Belgravia Group. “Our office has been working on Hartland Park for about 10 years,” said Vice President Zev Salomon, “We are extremely proud of this unique community and it is very rewarding to see it recognized in such a wonderful way.”
